Without the monks, and the receipt of the letter several classic works are lost to us. They were also instructed monks and nobles. Most, however, have lived in rural areas, and spent most of his time, without the Catholic church to stay alive, nobody would have any educational material.

Monks and nuns were often academics and books to write. In the Middle Ages, often making copies of the books (in the late Middle Ages, there were more professional copyists who did this).

Pastors were often primary child and the monasteries were schools where children are educated.
