What's the difference between the GM factory posi units? - how to setup swing party
I saw a unit of weight than Swing Out. And I saw another device with a spring and the type of coupling. If both the G80? Is one better than another?

The position of the mechanical unit is a Gov-Lock (lock governor) differential diagnoses. Most units of 1 / 2 tons are rather low, while 3 / 4 tons are slightly better (especially with heavier components).
The device with the clutch and clutch springs is a little slip differential. This test is carried out by different companies, Eaton made a lot of them to GM.
I do not know with certainty whether they know them, classified as G80.
In a van 1 / 2 tons, clutch-type unit is better. In the truck-3 / 4 or 1 ton, the Gov-Lock is a little better than a clutch type limited-slip.
I have a 74 Chevy 1 / 2 ton pickup truck that had Go-Lock. It is very well-functioning, has essentially lock both axles together as a coil. What was good for traction in a straight line, but it was too much while taking a turn. I replaced them with some kind of limited slip clutch Eaton.
This link is a description of the various types of differential.
